God news, bee hives in airports!
The five hives of Montreal- Mirabel International Airport in Quebec are full of eggs! The pilot project of beekeeping is thriving. The colonies are located on back roads in the airport.
The idea is perfectly feasible for use of space in areas where buildings are prohibited. The first airport to embrace the activity was Hamburg Airport in Germany in 1999. Then follow Munich, Nuremberg, Leipzig, Hannover, Dresden and others. Sweden also took the initiative and in the United States we have O’Hare Airport Chicago, Seattle-Tacoma and the Lambert-Saint Louis that have adopted the bees.
Bees do well in urban areas where there are people to manage the hives, diversity of flowers with no agricultural pesticides. Currently O’Hare Airport Chicago has the largest apiary world’s project with 75 beehives!
