LEED is the acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This is an international certification system for buildings and environmental stewardship. There are 143 countries already using LEED. The aim is to encourage sustainability in projects, work and building operations.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Park Library is trying to get this certification. The Library has already deployed a solar energy generation plant , the floor is from certified wood (logging within the law), the windows reduce heat, and formica used in the furniture is made of PET bottles. The water collected from the roof is reused   and the coolest thing is that the library has  a green terrace!
