What is a fuel cell?

Data / date: 01/08/11 2 Comentarios / Comments

A fuel cell is an electrochemical energy converter equipment capable of producing electricity by combining a supply of fuel, such as liquid hydrogen and an oxidizing agent, such as liquid oxygen. When the two elements combine within the cell, they are converted into water and electricity are produced continuously as long as the two elements are there: the fuel and the oxidizer.

The fuel cell is the same as a battery, except it uses other elements to produce energy. It is one of the most advanced technology in generation of “green” or clean energy because the emissions of greenhouse gases are “zero” or very low. Fuel cells are also more efficient than the energy used in cars engines.
Fuel cells can replace any other source of electricity and are being developed for many uses, from electric cars to household appliances to store energy.
