Increasingly, we hear of “biodiversity”, but what is it? Splitting the word makes understanding easier. Bio comes from Greek and means life. Diversity is the same  as variety. Biodiversity is the degree of variation in life forms: species variety of animals, plants and living beings that exist on Earth. The Brazilian Amazon Forest is known as one of the richest places in the world in  biodiversity.

Half of the recorded species on the planet are in the Amazon Forest: 2500 types of fish, 2500 types of birds, 3,500 types of towering trees, with more than 30 cm in diameter.

In the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro, there is a area that replicates the forest, with a handful of species.
