Paper made with elephant’s poo
Sri Lank is a small country with a large population of wild Asian elephants. The human population is growing and there is less room for elephants. The animals invade communities and farms in search of food. A large number of elephants are killed not because of their tusks or meat, but because they interfere with the food of the population!
One way o reduce conflict is to make people view elephants as valuable: dung can be transformed into paper. An adult elephant produces about 180 to 200 kilos of dung per day. Elephant eats only plants and their manure has many fibers, is crude fiber. Once cleaned and processed, the manure is converted into paper for notebooks, cards and other gifts. The paper is consumed locally and also exported to other countries in the world.
That is how humans experience a peaceful coexistence with animais.
