Bicycles are making a difference in Africa!
A project that encourages clean transport and is easy to use is making a difference in Africa with reusable bicycles.
Until November 2012, the VILLAGE BICYCLE PROJECT has managed:
• 60,000 donations of used bicycles shipped to Africa, since 1999.
• 12,000 students taught how to repair bicycles in Ghana and Sierra Leone
• 22,000 bicycle tools distributed in 14 African countries
• 12,000 hours per year of volunteers helping the project
Volunteers do hard sweaty work to pack a container with bikes.
Using bicycle, people arrive faster in schools, markets, farms and health care without polluting the environment and preventing these bikes to go to trash.
The project teaches basics to maintain and repair the bikes. Entire communities, including women and girls are involved in bike education.
Mobility is a key element to reduce poverty in Africa and a bicycle can be a way to a better life.
A great group of people for a great cause and there is fun too!
