March 21 – World Forest Day
Forests regulate the climate and help to maintain our atmosphere.
First, because they recycle much of the oxygen we breathe, as a result of photosynthesis.
Second, because they absorb large amounts of water (hundreds of liters per day, if a tropical tree), that are returned to the atmosphere in the form of perspiration. In doing that, forests contribute to the humidity and rain.
Finally, because the stock of forest ecosystems more than half the CO2 accumulated in the Earth’s land.
The problem is that this role is to store carbon dioxide in danger. For forests to continue doing their jobs, we must suspend the destruction and plant more trees.
The United Nations declared this year the International Year of Forests to draw attention to the problem and encourage the planting of trees!
The PlanetAtivo Project participates in the international project Canopy Tree, an initiative of Earth Day Network. The project will plant trees around the world, where they are needed. The goal is to get 10,000 trees until March 31!
In purchasing the book “The Mission of Sofia on Planet Earth” / Sophia’s Mission on Planet Earth, you contribute with US$ 1 to plant a tree!
