WWF  has recently released the Living Planet Report 2010. The biannual report makes a thorough study on the ecological footprint of countries. The EF measures consumption of renewable natural resources on land and sea that
a population uses to satisfy its necessities.

As we know, everything we consume comes from nature: paper, mobile, car, electricity, bread and fruit, bricks and everything we use in modern life.

In today’s world, humanity is going beyond the limits of the planet and we are running short of nature resources. Some countries have an ecological footprint  higher than its own biological capacity – or the ability to renew nature resources. Other countries rely heavily on resources from other countries and this can be a tricky problem.

According to the report, 10 countries that consume more of nature, which have the largest ecological footprint:

1. UAE
2. Qatar
3. Denmark
4. Belgium
5. United States
6. Estonia
7. Canada
8. Australia
9. Kuwait
10. Ireland

And the 10 countries that have more or biocapacity reserve of natural resources are:

1. Brazil
2. China
3. United States
4.Russia
5.Índia
6. Canada
7. Australia
8. Indonesia
9. Argentina
10. France.

To see more about the comparison of countries on the use of nature, the WWF has an interactive link Ecological Footprint Index – Index of the Ecological Footprint.
